Craps is more about betting than tossing the dice. Anyone at the Craps table can bet they don't have to throw the dice in order to bet. You can bet on almost any dice outcome, and can bet for or against the shooter.

The opportunity to roll the dice is offered to everyone at the table, in turn from right to left, and you can simply decline if you don't want to toss.

If you do decide to roll the dice there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • You must make a bet before you can throw the dice.
  • Several dice will be placed in front of you, pick out two (any two) for your turn.
  • Only handle the dice with one hand prior to throwing them.
  • The dice must be kept over the table at all times.
  • You must throw the dice hard enough to bounce off the far side of the table (to get a true roll).
The person shooting the dice does the following:

The shooter throws the dice for the first time (called the come-out roll). This results in one of three outcomes:

  1. The dice total is 2, 3, or 12 (craps) in which case the shooter loses and his/her turn is over.
  2. The dice total is 7 or 11 in which case the shooter wins and his/her turn is over.
  3. The dice total 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 (a point number) in which case the shooter rolls again.
Once the point has been established the shooter throws again. One of three things happen:
  1. The shooter rolls a seven (sevens out) and loses. His/her turn is over.
  2. The shooter rolls the Point number and wins. His/her turn is over.
  3. The shooter rolls any other number. In this case the shooter rolls again, and will continue rolling until he/she rolls a seven or the Point number.
