The most basic of any strategy is to reduce the casino edge to as little as possible. The easiest way to accomplish this in Craps is to always take (or lay) Odds bets, a Odds wager of equal value to your original bet reduces the casino's advantage on Pass Line, Don't Pass, Come and Don't Come bets from 1.4% to 0.85%. Wagering even larger amounts on the Odds bet will reduce the house edge even more (to as low as 0.02% for 100 times odds), however be prepared to take a large hit should you lose.
Some players have developed other strategies for winning that they feel work. Here are some of them:
Superstitious Systems:
- The Five Count system is used in an attempt to find hot players and then bet on them, in the belief that the hot streak will continue. You start counting when the shooter sets a point number (count one) and continue counting up with each roll until you reach five. When you reach a count of five you have a hot shooter, start betting on him/her.
- Anything But the Seven is used when you think a table is cold. To find a cold table look for one with few players, and players with few chips in their racks. After finding the cold table you wait until a seven is rolled. With the new shooter bet on the Don't Pass. After the point is established bet on the field (2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12) and on 5, 6 and 8. You now win on any number. As soon as the 5, 6, or 8 wins take your bets down.
Press systems:
Press systems use you winnings from previous wagers to increase your winnings.
- In The Straight Press you take your winnings as you win. After the shooter has the Point you make a Place bet (6 and 8 are the least risky) and wait. This strategy has the advantage of paying off with a single win and gets better if the shooter keeps rolling your number before he/she sevens out. Assuming you make a $12 Place bet on the 8 (6 and 8 have the greatest chance of being thrown after the 7). If you win your payoff is $14 (it pays 7 to 6) and even after the shooter sevens out and you lose your $12 bet you are up $2. If you find a hot shooter and he throws 8 say three times you win $42 (3 rolls that win at $14 per roll) after the shooter sevens out and you lose your $12 you are up $30.
- The Slow Press system is more of a press system. For this to work you need to win a minimum of four times, you lose more but your winnings are greater. Again you make a $12 Place bet on the 8 and use the following system;
1st win - Win $14 - Keep $ 2 - Press to $24
2nd win - Win $28 - Keep $ 4 - Press to $48
3rd win - Win $56 - Keep $44 - Press to $60
4th win - Win $70 - Keep $70 - Stay at $60
Then the shooter sevens out and you lose $60. You have winnings of $120, and a loss of $60 for a net gain of $60. If the shooter continues to throw eights then you win even more with no greater risk to you.
